Our flight trip starts in the early hours of the morning at the helicopter airport at Cape Town’s Waterfront, where our friendly crew will receive you and give you a warm welcome. Your weight will be determined for the purpose of accurately establishing load capacity on board. Following this, you will be familiarised with all necessary safety instructions and the pilot will introduce himself, welcoming you on board. Our flight attendants will hand you a lifejacket and will accompany you to the helicopter, where you will be assisted with fastening your seat belts. Last safety checks on the helicopter will be performed for highest safety standards.
The pilot will run through the flight route with you and the engines will be started. After a slight jerk we will ascend into the sky from where you will be able to marvel at Cape Town’s beautiful diva – Table Mountain – lying right at your feet. On the other side you will have a wonderful view of Robben Island and Blouberg’s long beaches.
We will be crossing the city centre, setting course for South Africa’s second oldest wine-growing area. After a short while we will reach the first wine districts with spectacular views of Cape Town’s False Bay. Stellenbosch is situated in a magnificent valley surrounded by beautiful mountain ranges. We will be able to see various golf courses as well as gorgeous wine estates from a great altitude.
The wine capital of Stellenbosch is famous for its world-acclaimed red and white wines. Amongst abounding art and culture, numerous restaurants and wine estates invite you to experience exquisite world class cuisine. The 335 year old history of Stellenbosch started with the first settlements on the riverbank of the Eerste Rivier in 1680. Simon van der Stel, who discovered this unique region and decided to settle down, was Cape Town’s second Governor after Jan van Riebeeck. The first farmers settled down and began to plant grains, fruit and vegetables in order to supply passing merchant ships with fresh produce.
Farmers in the area soon realised the great potential of the region’s terroir for bringing forth wonderfully healthy vines and grapes. The mild climate and rainy winters created the perfect growing conditions for many grape varietals, and Stellenbosch’s first wine estates were born. Today there are more than 120 wine estates in Stellenbosch and the centre of this unique town boasts many interesting activities as well as historical architecture from various eras. Despite many large fires in the town’s history, there are still a large number of houses dating back to the turn of the 19th century, which can be visited all year round. Dorp street is undoubtedly the most beautiful historical street in Stellenbosch.
Our helicopter wine tour takes us to a wine estate which offers its own helicopter landing site. Here you will have the opportunity to enjoy a delicious lunch and sample some of South Africa’s best wines from the famous Cape Winelands.
After lunch and with a heavy heart we will say goodbye to this magnificent wine estate and valley and set course for Cape Town’s Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. Back in town, Table Mountain will give us a warm welcome and we will land our helicopter back at the airport where our flight attendants will receive you.
This wine tour is especially suited as a gift to newly-weds, and of course to all wine enthusiasts and those who love the famous Cape Winelands. We will be happy to assist you in putting together a gift voucher for a truly unforgettable wine tour.
